A Shabby Bedroom

Here are some photos of my spare bedroom. I decided to give it a shabby chic vibe.

What to do with old doilies.

A lot of people ask me if doilies are out of date. I guess they could be if they were used in the same old way as our moms and grandmas used them. Nowadays women can't seem to figure out how to use them. Here are some pics of what I think brings doilies out of antiquity and shows them in a more modern context.

This one has an Ed Hardy feel to it and the red 3-D roses give it some dimension.

These pineapple stitch peacocks are lovely but I would have had no idea where to display something like that if I hadn't framed it.

Lampshades covered in doilies throw off interesting lighting patterns on the wall. And just hung from the ceiling are sculptural works of art.

Wall hangers and dreamcatchers and clock faces.

I hope you think grandma's old doilies aren't so stuffy anymore.

Old quilt, New apron

Here are a few pictures of an apron that I made using an old quilt that had seen better days and was completely shredded. The border on it was not in such bad condition and it made it's way into this lovely apron.

Life sure hands out crazy stuff. I am sorry blog land that I have been MIA for over a year. Several personal things have happened in my life since I posted last. They have all been good and I will be soon be back to the craftin' vibe again.
My daughter and I have turned in our application for Tulsa's Vintage Market Days scheduled for October of this year. We will be combining our talents and some wonderful creations are in the works.
Thanks for reading my blog.

Urban Fairytale Vintage Market Days

September 6,7,8

Come by and say Hello and see if there are any treasures that you just can't live without!

Gearing up for Autumn

It is starting to be that time of the year that I love. Ahh Autumn I have always enjoyed the sunny days and cooler nights. It makes me want to curl up with a book and a mug of apple cider.

I also start to think about the holiday known as Halloween! I love to decorate for this! I have already started envisioning how I want it to look. I think it will be leaning towards something I have done in the past but put some different aspects to it. I guess it could be called Gothic Whimsy.

Here is a peek at my current project. I wanted to make a fence of sorts going around the top of my bookcases. So I purchased garden fencing from Lowe's and had my husband cut off the stakes and mount it to a piece of wood so that it would stand up on its own. He also cut off the upper loops to make it fit in the space above the cabinets. This is the before. Please excuse the grainy quality, it was taken by my phone.

I liked it, but it needed to look old and distressed, so I painted it. I used plain acrylic craft paint and an almost worn out 1-inch paint brush. I used a light and dark brown, an orange, black and white. I started to dab different colors here and there. It wasn't hard at all. I love the way it came out. It totally looks like rusty metal now. I can't wait to put it all up and make the place all spooky yet elegant. I will post more pics when I have it completely decorated.
